Raise Funds Without Problems Using These Established School Fundraisers

Emergency upgrades and programs for schools often go unmet because their primary source of funding, taxes, often is limited to basic needs. If the opportunity is good but the funds are not there, many schools turn to school fundraisers to help fill in the gap.

Quality school fundraising efforts traditionally keep costs per item below $30. A realistic margin of profit is realized if the object sells for at least fifty percent or more above what the school paid for it.

Anything that’s food related is usually a good bet.

Simple, yet profitable items include

  • Cookies
  • Chocolate
  • Nuts

One of the most popular items to sell at fundraisers are boxes of cookies. Everything from low cost to the inherent joy people get from eating them makes cookies a common fundraiser hit. Bonuses to selling cookies at fundraisers, in addition to their extended shelf life, is the fact they do not require refrigeration.

But maybe you feel cookies no longer meet your need as a fundraising project. Some schools are beginning to think outside the box and looking at items such as nuts and/or chocolate to replace cookies as fundraising items. It’s possible the newness of selling nuts and chocolate as fundraiser items may financially eclipse cookies, which has been a standard for may years.

A relatively atypical fundraising item is a cheese and sausage kit. Possibly more costly, these kits bring an element of change to the fundraising arena.

Yet there‘s another even more promising fundraising alternative afoot. It‘s both easily sold and many buyers return again and again. What is this new option taking school fundraisers by storm?

It‘s java!!!!

There are many, many coffee drinkers, and a high percentage of them swear they can’t live without coffee; which might give you food for thought when you’re planning your next fundraising project.

Ford, president, Academy of Marketing Science and professor of marketing, Old Dominion University”This is not just a how-to-do-it book. Rather, it provides deep knowledge about the nonprofit sector, its role in society, and the values and psychology of giving that is essential to responsible and effective fundraising.” —Paul Brest, president, William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and author, Money Well Spent”Adrian Sargeant is the world’s foremost fundraising scholar. This text will be invaluable to the beginner, but new research findings mean it should also be a must read for established practitioners.” —Steve Thomas, co-chair, Resource Alliance, and chairman, Stephen Thomas Ltd, Toronto”Designed and written to fill the void in current fundraising and development textbooks for both undergraduate and graduate students studying nonprofit management and leadership, Fundraising Principles and Practice surpasses my expectations for a comprehensive approach that will benefit American Humanics programs.” —SueAnn Strom, vice president, Academic Partnerships, American Humanics®, Inc.”Sargeant is the accessible academic and this is typical of his work. It is rigorously researched, clear, concise, well written, well presented and entirely appropriate. Any fundraiser who knows what Adrian knows will outperform the others. It’s as simple as that.” —-Ken Burnett, author, Relationship Fundraising and The Zen of Fundraising
