For Student Series Literature of Developing Nations: The Latin Deli: An Ars Poetica by Judith Ortiz Cofer

$8.99

Judith Ortiz Cofer first published “The Latin Deli: An Ars Poetica” in Americas Review in 1992. The poem later appeared in a collection of poems, short stories, and personal essays titled The Latin Deli. The collection received much critical acclaim. A reviewer in Booklist wrote that Ortiz Cofer’s stories, essays, and poems are a “delicious smorgasbord of the sights, smells, tastes, and sounds recalled from a cross-cultural girlhood. Whether delineating the yearnings for an island homeland or the frustrations of a first-generation immigrant’s struggles to grow up in ‘el building’ in a New Jersey barrio, Ortiz Cofer’s work is rich in evocative detail and universal concerns.” The poem “The Latin Deli” focuses on a place where Spanish immigrants meet to talk to each other in their native language and to buy food from their homelands. The deli, presided over by the owner, offers a respite from the culture clash they have experienced in America. As they walk down the aisles, reciting the names of Spanish food like poetry, they are able to hang on to the traditions of the past, in order to maintain a clear sense of their cultural heritage. Ortiz Cofer transfers her own experience as an immigrant to art and so establishes a link between herself and the deli owner. Ortiz Cofer suggests that through her poems and stories that center on the lives of Spanish immigrants, she, like the owner of the deli, offers comfort and a sense of identity to others who share her heritage.

Amistad [VHS]

Amistad [VHS]

Steven Spielberg’s most simplistic, sanitized history lesson, Amistad, explores the symbolic 1840s trials of 53 West Africans following their bloody rebellion aboard a slave ship. For most of Schindler’s List (and, later, Saving Private Ryan) Spielberg restrains himself from the sweeping narrative and technical flourishes that make him one of our most entertaining and manipulative directors. Using EFT to Eliminate Negative Attitudes About Wealth

Money plays an essential part in all of our lives. You might conclude that every human being has an equal right to be rich. Everyone wants to live fully and enjoy the rewards of their labors. It’s perplexing that so many people prevent themselves from having the best possible life because they have negative attitudes about money.

Here are a few examples of ways deserving people like you use misguided thinking to avoid having money.

1. If you think that money is evil and you don’t want to think that you are evil, your brain is likely to set up situations to avoid having wealth.

2. If you view yourself as a loving person and you think that wealthy people are greedy and uncaring, you won’t want to have a substantial amount of money.

3. If you think that money and happiness don’t mix, you will probably deny your right to be rich. The assumption here is that money will make you miserable.

While it’s clearly true that money alone doesn’t make anyone happy, money is undoubtedly one of your most important tools for creating a positive life. If you want to claim the wealth that is rightfully yours, a highly effective healing technology called EFT Tapping can help. It admittedly looks strange, but it generally is miraculously effective.

See it for yourself in this lighthearted video, where Phillip Mountrose and Brad Yates use EFT to release negative beliefs about being wealthy and tap into more positive beliefs.

Your opportunities can change in remarkably amazing ways when you access your most powerful resources. Taking control of your thinking can transform your life. Then if you also access the effectiveness of the Emotional Freedom Techniques, you can progress rapidly toward a life of riches and more.
